If you haven’t heard of Xero – the kiwi app disrupting the worldwide accounting industry – then you must be living under a rock. I hope, for your sake, that it’s a comfy rock, one that doesn’t give you backache.

Allow me to introduce you both. Xero is a cloud accounting app, enabling you to do your accounts from anywhere in the world, from any device. But Xero is so much more than that – it gives the power back to business owners, enabling you to have visibility over your cash flow and see how your business is tracking from month to month.

So many business owners and entrepreneurs find accounting too complex or mysterious. They do what they have to do in order to comply, but beyond that they don’t even so much as glance at their account balance. Most business owners couldn’t tell you how their business was tracking from month to month.

That information is invaluable. And it's that easy access to data that Xero can give you. It empowers business owners like yourself to make positive changes so you can grow and thrive.

Here’s how to use Xero in your business:

1. Get your Xero set up

Set aside some time to get your Xero account set up and learn how to use it. Xero offers a bunch of great free training courses and videos about all the different features in their help section to help you learn how to use Xero.

2. Get in the habit

Software is only as good as the information that’s put into it, and Xero is no exception. You need to get your bank feeds set up, and then get in the habit of using Xero instead of your old system. Within a month of making a regular habit, you’ll find Xero will become part of your daily life.

Luckily, Xero makes this easy. The interface is so simple (and fun) to use that any activity will only take you a few minutes to complete. Xero uses charts and visual aids to make your accounts easy to understand. And, because Xero is on the cloud, you can install the app on all your devices and carry it everywhere. Do your reconciliations while waiting in line at the post office, and check your balance on the bus.

3. Get a great accounting partner

Xero is at its most powerful when you use it in conjunction with an experienced bookkeeper or accountant. Why? Well, have a look at what we do here at Make Change. We sync up with your Xero account, and give you an app that enables you to snap pictures of your invoices and track your bills. All of this gets pushed through to your Xero account, so absolutely everything is in one place.

Then our human team take over. We make sure everything is correctly reconciled and accurate, and at the end of every month, we send you an easy-to-read visual report about your cash activity. No jargon, no bullshit – just solid advice on improving your financial health.

Want to try it for yourself? Contact Make Change today to see how we can help you get started with how to use Xero.
